Why The Human Element is SEXY When It Comes To Advertisement

I’ll keep this short. I was 20 years old with an amazing idea. I was working a 9-5. I wanted to escape and start my own business, so I thought: "I will just start a dropshipping business!". I thought I would be a millionaire within 1 year, but, I knew nothing about marketing.

With $200 to my name, I burned a hole in my pocket. I made 1 sale for a $45 profit. I spent my entire $200 to make that sale. I made negative profit. Determined, I started doordashing to make money. Earning $7 per order roughly, I quickly realized that doordashing was more profitable than marketing and having no money it was my only option.

What was I doing? I was making bright, colorful ads with vague phrases I had seen on TV. I was writing long wordy "about me" pages, item descriptions, articles that never got to the point and it just. wasn't. working.

It didn't make sense, my ads utterly failed. Finally, I spoke to one of my mentors and he told me that the reason I failed is because I am not a multimillion dollar company and entertaining ads only work with companies who have money to blow. I needed to drop all the fancy bullshit, wordy advertisements and talk like a human. I needed to advertise...   LIKE A HUMAN!

My other error was targeting EVERYBODY IN THE USA. If I am selling dog toys, does it make sense to spend ANY of my valuable $200 advertising to a person who has dog allergies?? NO. Define your audience, know your target demographic and zero in on them. With modern technology and marketers there is no need to waste your precious money advertising to customers who would never buy from you anyways.

Stop using AI to make your advertisements. This seems easy to get away with, but we all use AI and we all recognize it when we see it. Be a human, become a great writer, learn to write catchy headlines. Just this one small trick turned around my advertisement game. Why would somebody call a phone number underneath a boring headline? While I never started a dropshipping business, I DID start a successful marketing agency and I am proud of my writing.

Keep things simple and get to the point. You know what everybody finds sexy? A giant wad of cash in your pocket. You need leads, you do not need to be a dancing monkey fighting for everybody’s attention. This is why targeting specific audiences is so important. You can have the best headline ever, but if you’re targeting the wrong audience and using vague one-liners and wordy advertisements it is essentially useless! Target the right audience, keep it simple, keep it human and get to the point! “Out of clutter, find simplicity” - Albert Einstein
